Pasay City mayor’s statement on SM MOA robbery last night

STATEMENT OF PASAY CITY MAYOR ANTONINO G. CALIXTO
ON THE ROBBERY IN INCIDENT IN SM MOA

We wish to commend the Pasay Police and the NCRPO for its immediate and timely response to the robbery incident at SM MOA Department Store that led to the arrest of one (1) of the suspects, Bryan Bansawan y Laran aka Mahdi L. Abelin (based on the ID card recovered from his wallet).

The fast response of the Police Assistance Desk assigned to SM MOA thwarted the plans of the alleged members of the “Martilyo Gang” while the arrival of police officers from the Pasay Police Community Precinct (PCP) and Pasay SWAT Team led to the arrest of the suspect at Tokyo Tokyo restaurant.

The police was able to recover in the suspect’s possession one (1) cal. .45 pistol, one (1) magazine assembly loaded with seven (7) live ammunition, and host of other evidences.

The Pasay Police’s outstanding performance last night at SM MOA proves that they are indeed “Pasay’s Best.”

Thus, a formal award will be presented to the concerned police officers by the City Government during the City Hall flag raising ceremony on April 7, 2014.

Criminal charges of Robbery. Frustrated Homicide, Attempted Homicide and Illegal Possession of firearms and ammunition will be filed against the arrested suspect and the same will be referred for inquest proceedings before the Pasay City Prosecutors Office.

Early in February, I directed the Pasay Police to increase police visibility in all malls, amusement parks, and public places in our city and I am pleased that all our efforts have borne fruit in this case.

We are also providing an additional 10 mobile cars and 20 motorcycles to the Pasay PNP to ensure faster response time to criminal incidents.

I wish to remind the public that even with increased police visibility and presence it is still vigilance and cooperation with authorities and the police that will assure public safety and security.

Thus, I urge our people to immediately report suspicious-looking persons to the Pasay Police hotline 831-73-22 and 831-7433.
